Tokens, cost and limits

desk keeps count of what every session uses, and shows how much of your Claude plan is left.

A card with a session shows its figures at its foot: the number of turns (beside the star), the tokens and the cost so far.

The DESK-5 card: “6 · 182k tokens · $1.84” at its foot

Six turns, 182k tokens, $1.84.

The session’s header says the same in words, under its links: “6 turns · 182k tokens · $1.84”.

The panel’s header, ending with “6 turns · 182k tokens · $1.84”

The figures in the session’s header.
  • Turns count every time Claude finished answering.
  • Tokens add up each turn’s input, cache and output tokens.
  • Cost is what Claude Code reports for the session, in dollars, added up over every time its process started.

The full window has a strip above the message box with the session’s context and the account’s plan limits, each with a meter.

The usage strip: Context 71k / 200k (36%), 5h 34%, 7d 61%, 7d Opus 83%, each with its reset time

The meters are green, orange from 70% and red from 90%.
Figure What it is
Context The tokens in the session’s context now, out of the model’s window, and how full that is. Until a turn has ended desk may not know the window yet: then it shows the tokens alone.
5h The plan’s 5-hour session limit: how much of it you’ve used, and when it resets.
7d The plan’s weekly limit, over every model.
7d <model> A model’s own weekly limit, when the plan has one (for example 7d Opus).

A reset time shows as a time when it’s within the day, or as a weekday and time.

The limits are the account’s, not the card’s: every session under the same account shows the same. desk asks Claude for them with the account’s login, at most every 3 minutes. If it can’t, the strip shows Limits and the reason.
